DARK SIDE OF STEEL CITY

We all are so proud n happy to be born in Rourkela, which is a birthplace of many talented responsible youths. But little did we realize the reason why none of the youths want to stay back in this city as they grow up. At first, this city would neither provide proper graduation degree to its budding students nor would it provide any proper jobs. Hence the bird has to leave its nest. Yet there is one more fact that has drives people away from Rourkela. The mentality And behavior of people. Youths from this town are now all over India and abroad but they regret coming back to this place and hence stay away. The locals who stay here do not accept them back into the society. People here in Rourkela often misbehave, stare and pass comments to any individual they find little different in nature or behavior. There is still no protection for girls after 8.00pm in the evening. I would like to highlight a series of incidents in which I found it extremely annoying how guys are behaving with girls in the auto-rikshaws in the evening hours. I stay in Koelnagar and work in Panposh which are situated 13kms apart with Bisra Chowk as the midpoint between the two places. I have to travel up and down everyday. My jobs needs me stay till 8:30pm in the evening. While returning back in the autos I find it really disgusting how men behave.... Some would sit closely to me. Even if I move aside they would move even closer. Its dark inside the auto-rickshaws. Hence few men suddenly poke at unwanted places or put hand around my shoulder and quickly remove it. I was terrified. Traveling alone with four or five men of this nature really scares me. Not only that..... Scene at Bisra chowk is even worse. While getting down from one auto and crossing the road to catch another auto for Koelnagar, 2-3 guys in bike would drive close by me passing vulgar comments. It would be nearly 9pm by that time and I realized I was the only girl there. I would already be hungry and tired but then I would have to go through all this. I was infuriated and shouted back at one of them. Every body there stared at me but no one reacted. I have never faced such an incident when I was working in a metro. But Rourkela, my hometown had me face all this almost everyday. This makes me feel shit about this city and its people. Rourkelites please wake up!!! Please be aware that your city is being infected by irraditional people who tease and comment girls and make them feel uncomfortable. If you are staying around Bisra please spread the messages to the fellow "men" to behave decently. After all its our responsibility to keep the town and its people safe.
